History

My friend was hit and seriously hurt by a motorist when we were bicycle riding at night in Teaneck, New Jersey, where we lived at the time. When my friend raised his arm to signal that he was about to make a left turn, he was hit from the rear as he moved to the center of the road. At the hearing, the driver claimed that he did not see the cyclist.

Using my skills as a graphic artist I made sketches for a bicycle light signal that could save lives and protect cyclists from motorists who could not see them at night or during the day. The purpose is to make it clear their intention to turn or stop.

With the help and encouragement of my wife, Eleanor, I developed the Bike LiteTM, a flashing turn signal and brake light that certainly would have prevented this accident. The Bike LiteTM operates very easily. You don’t have to move your hands off the handlebars to use the system because everything is within reach.

The photos on this website were taken of the first working prototype (which has taken 7 years to make). Bike LiteTM in its present form should be available for purchase in about 6 weeks. I am hoping to see this product as a standard fixture on all bicycles some day.
